Ten facts you should know about the Costa Blanca Cup
These are some milestones that are part of the history of the youth soccer tournament
-When was the tournament born?
-The first edition of the tournament was in 1994. In 2021 it would become 28 years but it will be its 27th edition because in 2020 it could not be celebrated due to Covid-19.
-What was the motivation for the birth of the Costa Blanca Cup?
-In the 1980s the organizers participated in several international youth soccer tournaments in northern Europe. The experience was very good both for the strengthening of the group and for the relationships that were generated with teams from all over the world. As soon as they could, they transferred the same concept to Spain, a country with unbeatable conditions for it.
-What are the foundations, the essence of the tournament?
-The promotion of tourist sports, its international character and the promotion of values through football.
-What can you find at the CBC?
-Passion for soccer, spectacular ceremonies, good accommodation with full board (free buffet), a careful organization and a great desire to have fun.
-Which athletes who have reached the elite participated in this tournament?
-Approximately 80,000 young soccer players have participated, so it is very difficult to know all the elite ones. In any case, some of them are Xabi Alonso, Marcos Llorente, Aritz Aduriz, Diego Capel, Andoni Iraola, Sandra Paños, Ivana Andrés, Tere Saurí, Miquel Arteta, Jacobo Ynclán, Giovanni Simeone, Luismi Quezada, Juan Quero, Miguel San Román, Mamor Niang, Josep Martínez, Sergio Lozano.
-From which continents or countries do your participants come?
-Teams from 5 continents representing 69 countries have participated. The order based on the number of teams represented is: Europe (33 countries) - America (14 countries) - Asia (13 countries) - Africa (8 countries) - Oceania (1 country).
-Who can participate?
-The tournament is open to clubs, sports schools and colleges with boys and girls from 8 to 19 years old. It also has a category for footballers with intellectual disabilities and another for the blind ones.
